Rory Mcllroy Wins PGA Tour Player of the Year
In what had to be a mere formality, Rory Mcllroy was awarded the PGA Tour Player of the Year honor Wednesday morning.
The Palm Beach Gardens resident had a 2014 to remember on Tour, winning The Open Championship, WGC Bridgestone Invitational, and the PGA Championship in consecutive events. Those three wins were part of a stellar 2014 campaign that saw Mcllroy finish in the top 25 for every event he entered on Tour.
In fact, if a few more bounces had gone his way, Rory could have been looking at a four or even five win season. He just missed out on a win at the Honda Classic at PGA National when he lost in a playoff to Russell Henley. He also finished runner up to Billy Horschel at the Tour Championship presented by Coca-Cola.
2014 marked the second time Mcllroy has taken the Player of the Year honors. He also won the award on 2012 when he won his first PGA Championship. He beat out Billy Horschel, Martin Kaymer, Jimmy Walker and Bubba Watson for the award,
With this award it truly has become the “Summer of Rory”. In addition to his success of the PGA Tour, he won the BMW PGa Championship, Europe’s flagship event, on the European Tour and was part of the winning Ryder Cup team.
Chesson Hadley wins Rookie of the Year Honors
Mcllroy wasn’t the only golfer that was awarded some hardware by the Tour Wednesday morning. Chesson Hadley was named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year as well. The 2013 Web.com Tour graduate was the only rookie to win on the PGA Tour this year, winning the Puerto Rico Open back in March.
Hadley was selected over Victor Dubuisson and Palm Beach Gardens resident Brooks Koepka.
